PHILLIPS, Mary Pilar Rivas
PHILLIPS, Mary Pilar Rivas Born October 12, 1925, in Watts, Calif. Passed away August 31, 2012, in Palmdale, Calif. She resided in Quartz Hill since 1956. From 1943 to 1945, while still a teenager, Mary worked for McDonnell Douglas as they built military planes during World War II. She met her future husband, Elmer Phillips, in the McDonnell Douglas cafeteria. They had four children and were married for 56 years until his passing in 2002. Mary returned to McDonnell Douglas in 1966, where she worked for the next 27 years. Mary is survived by her four children Edwin Phillips of Palmdale, Maria Gardner of Spokane, Wash., Judy Deeley of Simi Valley, and Teresa Lubrani of Murrieta. She is also survived by seven grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, and seven great- great-grandchildren. One of 13 brothers and sisters, Mary Phillips was the beloved matriarch of a large and adoring family. Born into our countrys 'Greatest Generation,' she was a shining example of the character traits which made her generation so stellar.
