MASTERS, Samuel Austin
MASTERS, Samuel Austin Was born in Linton, Indiana, on Sept. 26, 1922, and passed away peacefully at home, on August 3, 2012. He was 89 years old. Samuel served in the U.S. Navy in the South Pacific and Alaska until 1946. He met and married his wife Zada in 1948, in Pontiac, Michigan. Sam and Zada moved to Indio, California in 1949, which is where their three daughters were born. In 1958, Sam moved his family to the Antelope Valley where he resided until his passing. After retiring from the U.S. Postal Service he volunteered for several years at the Lancaster Senior Center, assisting with the lunch meals. He then spent over 10 years regularly feeding the homeless by volunteering with the Soup Kitchen at the United Methodist Church, assisting with serving and cleanup. Sam leaves behind his wife of 64 years, Zada Masters, his three daughters, Lynn Shahnazi (Ali) of Lancaster, Leanne Albers (Victor) of Santa Cruz, and Nancy Masters of Lancaster, his four grandchildren Luke Thompson and Lindsay Ring (Mike) of Fort Worth, Texas, and Patrick Grube (Brook) and Katrina Grube of Santa Cruz, and great-grandson Emerson Samuel Grube of Santa Cruz. A Celebration of Life will be held at the Lancaster United Methodist Churchat 3 p.m., Saturday, August 11, 2012. A private Interment will be held at the Riverside National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to the Soup Kitchen at the Lancaster United Methodist Church,918 West Avenue J, Lancaster, CA 93534. Arrangements are entrusted to Halley Olsen Funeral Chapel, Lancaster.
