GAIDELIS, John Anthony
GAIDELIS, John Anthony Born August 18, 1924, in Bayonne, N.J. Passed away July 27, 2012, in Palmdale, Calif. He grew up in Linden, N.J. where he went to Linden High School. From boyhood, John always was interested in airplanes, flying and building planes. After high school, he served in the Army Air Corps during World War II, in the European theater. After the war, he attended Casey Jones School of Aeronautics in Flushing, New York, and worked as an aeronautical Engineer. He married Dorothy in 1951, and they had three children, John Jr., Susan and Michael. They moved to California in 1961, when John started work at Lockheed Aircraft Corp., in Van Nuys and then Burbank. He retired from Lockheed in 1987, and he and Dot moved from Granada Hills to their vacation home in Fish Camp, Calif., near Yosemite. He and Dorothy returned to Los Angeles to live in 2000. Survived by his son John A. Gaidelis Jr., (Sandra K.) of Summerfield, N.C., daughter Susan D. Allen (Terry L.) of Palmdale, Calif., grandchildren John A. Gaidelis III, Thomas M. Gaidelis, Leigh A. Hay, Leslie Komper and 7 great-grandchildren. Dot passed away in 2001 and son Michael passed away in 2007, granddaughter Cheryl Whitmore passed away in 2011. Viewing will be held from 4 to 7 p.m., Thursday, August 2, 2012, with Rosary from 7 to 8 p.m., at Halley Olsen Murphy, Lancaster. Funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m., Friday, August 3, 2012, at Blessed Junipero Serra Parish.
