ZAMRZLA, John C. Sr.
ZAMRZLA, John C. Sr. Born on April 9, 1913, passed away on May 27, 2012. A faithful son, devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. Known to his family as Grampa Z, he celebrated his 99th birthday on April 9, 2012. He grew fragile in recent years but had a long and amazingly healthy life. He never missed a day of work due to illness and few of us even half his age can say we've never had a surgery or been hospitalized for any reason. That remained true to the end, as he received hospice care and passed peacefully in the Lancaster home of his grandson, Johnny Lee and Jeanette Zamrzla. He was born in Denver and came to California with his parents, Joseph & Helen Zamrzla, when he was a young boy. He grew up and went to school in Los Angeles and married his childhood sweetheart, Eleanor Hubble, in 1938. He learned his trade as a meat cutter from his father and worked in the wholesale and retail market meat business until his retirement. He and Eleanor came to Lancaster from Torrance nearly 40 years ago, moving here to be near their only son (aka Johnny Z) and his family. In his early retirement years in the 1970's he could often be found in the Western Pacific Roofing yard or on the Zamrzla Ranch, working on equipment or trucks, keeping worn out things running. He was always helping out and usually with plenty of comment about how nobody took good care of their equipment these days! John and Eleanor were married for 67 years. She suffered a long illness and was bedridden at home for many months prior to her death in 2005. He was her primary caregiver and had the respect and admiration of the hospice care nurses who assisted. He's at peace now and was ready to be with his Eleanor once again. He is survived by his son, Johnny (Pam) Zamrzla; three grandchildren, Johnny Lee (Jeanette) Zamrzla, Joe (Jami) Zamrzla, and Sheri (Bruce) Greco; and seven great-grandchildren, Zach and Payton Zamrzla; Lexi, Sogn and Sadi Zamrzla; and Wyatt and Jacey Greco. Funeral Service will be held on Sunday June 3,2012, at 11 a.m. at Joshua Memorial Chapel ; Interment to follow. Sincere thanks to the staff and nurses of Vitas Hospice Care, especially to Molli Pazienza and Robin Ruiz, both of whom also cared for Eleanor. Grampa Z was a faithful supporter and life-long contributor to Billy Graham.
