ARMAN, Moossa Joseph Moe
ARMAN, Moossa Joseph 'Moe' Born August 1, 1942, in Iran, passed away on May 18, 2012, in Lancaster, Calif. Moe grew up in Yazd, Iran, and came to America, where he received his Ph.D. from UCLA/UC Berkeley in the mid-60s at the exceptional age of twenty-two. He returned to Iran where he established the Graduate School of Physics at Pahlavi University (now known as Shiraz University), and served as Dean from 1973 to 1979. His pursuit of physics led him back to the states to fulfill several roles, including advisory positions for the National Research Council for the National Academy of Sciences and DARPA (Defense Advanced Research Agency). Even after Moe retired, he continued to work at home doing what he loved-physics. He is survived by his son, Cyrus; daughter Diana; grandson Lucas; brother Shimon; sisters, Gohar, Shocat, Norith, Zamira, Bibi, Ezat, and Yafa; girlfriend Wilma; ex-wife Shahnaz; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, and uncles. Services were held on Sunday, May 20, 2012, at Eden Memorial park in Mission Hills, Calif. The home Moe grew up in has been converted into a hotel, and proudly bears a tribute to Moe's accomplishments. The building can be viewed on the internet at www.silkroadhotel.ir.
