THIXTON, Dusty 1948 - 2012 Larry Clyde Thixton who was known by his friends as Dusty died from lung cancer Thursday, May 17, 2012, in Lancaster, California. Dusty was born February 3, 1948, in Atascadero, California, to Clyde and Tessie Johnson Thixton. He grew up in Paso Robles and graduated from Paso Robles High School in 1966. He immediately enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and was sent to Vietnam where he drove a mine- sweep along the roads of Da Nang Province. In 1969, he married Mickie Williams and they had one son, Kyle. They divorced and in 1980 he married Janis Narrimore in Santa Margarita. Janis died in 2001. For the past 12 years, Dusty worked for Unisys Corporation laying fiber optic cable in buildings at Edwards Air Force Base. During this time, he resided in California City, California. Throughout his life he was an avid naturalist and loved animals of all kinds. He had a variety of pets including snakes, a raccoon, a chipmunk, two young mountain lions and his dog, Blue. He enjoyed fishing and was an expert at tying flies. Besides his wife Janis, he was preceded in death by his grandparents, Zeke Thixton and Charlie and Nona Johnson, his parents, Clyde Thixton and Tessie Marty, and his stepfather, Lloyd Marty. He is survived by his son, 5 Grandchildren, one sister Sandy Thixton of Oregon, and stepmother, Imogene Thixton of Paso Robles. It was his wish that no services be held. Anyone wishing to do so may make a donation in his memory to the National Wildlife Federation.
