MASON, James D. J.D.
MASON, James D. 'J.D.' 71, died in his home April 11, 2012, in Lancaster, Calif. J.D. was born April 26, 1940, in Charleston, W. Va., to Kenneth and Irene Mason. He spent 24 years in the USAF, where he received many awards, medals and commendations. After retiring from Mather AFB, Calif. in 1984, he continued his love of aerospace and held a supervisory position at Rockwell International and Boeing. During this time he also received many accolades for his contributions to the space shuttle Endeavor and B-1 and B-2 bomber projects. Once the space programs came to a close he worked for Antelope Valley Transit Authority. J.D. used his quick, intelligent, warped, sense of humor to spread laughter and evoke thought in everyone he met whether he knew them or not. He was a long-time geologist enthusiast and was a member of The Lost Dutchman's Mining Association INC as well as the Gold Prospector's Association of America. J.D. is survived by children Monica, Jamie and Kenneth Mason and six grandchildren: Mitchell, Travis, Cara, Nikki, Robert, and Katie, by his brother Jerry and sister Susan. Full military honors service to be held April 26, 2012 at Riverside National Cemetery at 2:30 section 6.
