PRICE, RAYMOND EDWARD
PRICE, Raymond Edward July 7, 1921 ~ Feb. 20, 2012 Raymond Price, retired from the U.S. Navy in 1959, and most recently resided in Rosamond and Lancaster, passed away in his sleep at the Merrill Gardens Retirement Community in Lancaster. Raymond was born in North Carolina and enlisted in the Navy in 1939, at age 17. He married Hazel Elizabeth 'Betty' Yadon in 1943. They celebrated 61 years of marriage before Betty predeceased Raymond, passing in 2004. Ray and Betty had a full life living in Long Beach, San Francisco, and Daly City, California; Oak Harbor, Seattle, and Bremerton, Washington; Oregon; and Japan. They made good friends wherever they went and were active members in the Central Christian Church of Lancaster. Ray and Betty loved animals including dogs, cats, and turtles. After retirement from the Navy Ray worked as a Helmsman for Helms Bakeries, and then for the Long Beach School District. He is survived by a daughter Mary Janet Price, who lives in Salem, Oregon; and two sons, James and his wife Deidra, and Jeff and his wife Donna, all who live in Southern California. Ray and Betty had three granddaughters: Brooke Price of Los Angeles, Brittany Price of Costa Mesa, and Kristin Price who passed away at age 30 of cystic fibrosis. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, February 11, 2012, at Central Christian Church, 3131 West Avenue J, Lancaster, CA 93536, with a reception following. Raymond will be buried next to Betty at Arlington National Cemetery in Washington, D.C. The family suggests donations to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.
