MASSEY, Virginia M. Virginia Mae Massey, a retired assistant postmaster and an 82 year resident of the Valley, died Feb. 2, 2012. She was 86. 'She loved the Valley, the environment, the clear skies, the Joshua trees and the people,' said her son, Cal Massey. 'She was very proud to live in the desert.' Massey was born Virginia Jones in Goffs on April 14, 1925, the oldest of seven children. She graduated from Antelope Valley High School before marrying Wilbert Massey in February 1944. She had two sons. Massey worked for 30 years in the Edwards Air Force Base post office before retiring and learning income tax preparation. She then worked at the Lancaster branch of H&R Block for 17 years. Massey was also a lifelong devotee of the Order of Eastern Star. She received her 50 year pin in 2010. Massey is survived by sons Cal and Curt Massey, daughters- in-law Verleen and Susan, four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband, parents and three siblings. Viewing will be held at 11:30 a.m., with Funeral Services beginning at 1 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 9, 2012, both at Joshua Memorial Park, 808 E. Lancaster Blvd., Lancaster.
