VARELA, Eloy With great sadness Eloy Varela passed away peacefully with his family at his bedside on January 21, 2012. He left to be with the Lord and his loving wife Libby of 62 years and his oldest son Eloy Jr. He was born April 8, 1924, to Nester and Rita Varela in Pecos, New Mexico, the 2nd child of 6 with one surviving sister Claudia Varela. Eloy and his family moved to Oro-granda, Calif., then to Lancaster in 1967. He was a World War II veteran and a Class A Carpenter for 30 years. His hobbies were fishing, camping, Bingo and he love teasing everybody. He was the proud parent of 8 children; Gloria Cruz, Mary Ann Parea, Jerry Varela, Robert Varela, David Varela, Frank Varela and Cathy Shurley, 22 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren. Viewing will be held from 4 to 8 p.m., with a Rosary at 6 p.m., Monday, January 30, 2012, at Joshua Memorial Park & Mortuary. Funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m., Tuesday, January 31, 2012, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Burial will follow Mass at Good Shepherd Cemetery.
