Obituary Notices and Memorials

ELLIOTT, John Francis 91, of Palmdale, California, passed away peacefully in his sleep January 12, 2012. John was born June 24, 1920, to James and Dora Elliott in Staten Island, New York. John was the oldest surviving son and had two sisters and a younger brother. In 1943, John married Dorothy Forbes of Toronto, Canada, and they had five children: Calvin, Warren, twins, Bruce and Bonnie, and Joan. In 1978, John married Ada Bardeggia Porco. Ada has two children: Gary and Janie (from a previous marriage). John worked with his father at the Brooklyn Navy Yard until moving west to California in 1948. John was an electrical engineer, designing electrical systems for buildings. As a talented craftsman, his home is a tribute to his cabinet making skills. John was also artistic and has many oil paintings to his credit. His sons followed in his footsteps inboth engineering and craftsmanship, and his daughters pursued his love of art and graphics. Not only did John love books, as evident from his extensive collection, but he also loved music, especially gospel music. In any visit to his home, one could hear it playing, and John often singing along as well. Every room, including the garage, was wired for sound. It is fitting that he slipped away with gospel music in the background. John accepted Jesus Christ as his personal Lord and Savior as a teenager and continued to grow in his faith and serve the Lord until he was called home to Heaven. John and Ada were members at Wayside Chapel Community Church in Rosamond and served there for many years, providing leadership to the Prime Timers Sunday School Class and singing in the senior choir. John also served as an elder and as a member of the building committee. He is survived by his wife Ada, his children and their spouses: Calvin (Ginny), Warren (Hope), Bruce (Alice), Joan Hall (Warren), Jim Wallace (husband of late Bonnie), 2 step-children: Janie Hall (Mark), and Gary Porco, 17 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren, sister Dorothy Taylor and brother Harry (wife Dorothy) plus numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his daughter Bonnie Elliott Wallace, sister Lillian Meier, brothers-in-law Bud Meier and Jack Taylor, and sister-in-law Patricia Elliott. John loved, and was loved by his friends, his family, his grandchildren and his great-grandchildren, and will be greatly missed by all who knew him. A Memorial Service will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, January 28, 2012, at Wayside Chapel Community Church, 2584 Felsite Avenue, Rosamond, CA 93560, 1-661-256-9222. Arrangements entrusted to Halley-Olsen-Murphy, Lancaster.
