MANSFIELD, Dorothy Lou Feb. 25, 1928 ~ Oct. 22, 2011 Dorothy, 83, passed surrounded by her family, after a hard fought battle against ovarian cancer. She resided in Alta Loma, California, at the time of her death, where she raised her family. She was also a long time resident of Leisure Lake in Lancaster, California. Dorothy was born to Helen and Elmer Fowler in Goodwell, Oklahoma in 1928. She graduated from Beaver High School, Oklahoma, May 16, 1946, and married the love of her life Elgin Mansfield on June 8, 1946. In 1973, Dorothy became one of the first women Correctional Officers at the Chino Correctional Facility. After her retirement she enjoyed volunteering for hospice and the Antelope Valley Hospital in Lancaster, California. Dorothy enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. She served various offices in the hospital auxiliary. Being a member of TOPS, Bingo, Bunko, and the Red Hats Club brought much joy to her life. Dorothy also enjoyed her travels to Alaska, Hawaii, France and the Caribbean. Dorothy is survived by her children Linda Scott of Ontario, Calif., Janell Starn of Riverside, Calif., Jerry (Lynn) Mansfield of Fillmore, Utah, and Marsha (Ken) Larsen of Bonita, Calif. She is also survived by 9 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. Dorothy is preceded in death by her parents Helen and Elmer, her husband Elgin, her brother John William (J.W.) and her beloved animals B.G. and Charlie. A memorial luncheon will be held in her honor at 12 noon, Thursday, October 27, 2011, at Marie Calendars, 2149 East Convention Center Way, Ontario, CA 91764. A special thank you to her daughter Linda and the wonderful people of Hospice for the love and care provided in her last years of life. To know Dorothy was to love her. She will forever remain in the hearts and souls of all who knew and loved her. Like a single drop of rain, that on still waters fall, her life did ripples make, and touch the lives of all.
