SHETLER, Clarence E. Jr. 'Sonny' Born July 6, 1932, in Pasadena, California, to his loving parents, Clarence Sr. and Mary Shetler (both deceased). Sonny passed away peacefully at his home in Llano, California on October 13, 2011, surrounded in love by his family and friends. Sonny moved with his parents from Pasadena to his lifelong home in Llano, California in 1943. His family farmed alfalfa and raised cattle and Quarter horses for many years. He served in the Army during the Korean conflict. He returned home safely, and soon after, married his sweetheart, Margaret (Peggy) Mooneyham. They had four children. Sonny graduated from Antelope Valley High School in 1950. He competed in high school rodeo, and later, he was a member of the P.R.C.A. Pro Rodeo. Sonny enjoyed calf roping and team roping. He was a cowboy thru and thru. He was involved in many community activities. He was a lifelong member of the B.P.O.E. Elks Lodge #1625 in Lancaster. He served on the Farm Bureau board for many years. He competed in the Rural Olympics at the Antelope Valley Fair and Alfalfa Festival in the 50's, 60's and 70's. He was also a judge of the Rural Olympics. He was a Grand Marshal of the Lancaster Christmas Parade during the 1990's. He was in charge of the equestrian entries for both the Antelope Valley Fair Parade and the Lancaster Christmas Parade for many years. Sonny was also active in the Elks Camper Club. He was also a very active member of the Rancheros Visitadores (Los Charros). Sonny loved spending time with his family and friends. He lived life to its fullest! Sonny was predeceased by his father, Clarence E. Shetler, in May 1977, mother, Mary Shetler, in July 1985, sister, Margaret (Peggy) Thomas, in February 1991, and his longtime companion, Emma Frausto, in December, 2003. Sonny is survived by his four children and their spouses, sons Robert (Lisa), John, Daniel (Gretchen), step-grandchildren Randee and Louie, step-great- grandchildren Elizabeth, James, Justin, Louie Jr., and Dillion, daughter Diane (Paul) Kale, three grandchildren, Nicole, Alison and Sean Kale, his sister, Gerry (Milt) Moran, his ex-wife Margaret (Peggy), his close friend, Sandy Huszar, his numerous nieces, nephews and family members. Sonny will be dearly missed by his family and his many friends. The family would like to thank Hoffmann Hospice for their wonderful care and support during this difficult time. A celebration of Sonny's life is scheduled for 10 a.m., Friday, October 28, 2011, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 1600 East Ave R-4, Palmdale, CA 93550, immediately followed by a memorial and reception at the Lancaster Elks Lodge #1625, located at 240 East Ave K, Lancaster, CA 93535.
