Obituary Notices and Memorials

SMITH, Marjorie 'Jean' Jean left us on Oct. 9, 2011; one day before her 89th birthday. She departed from this life peacefully in the afternoon while napping to go to what is often referred to as a better place, for her it is, as the last month had been pretty hard. Jean had spent most of her adult life in Lancaster, Calif. She was very active in the VFW Post 7283 Ladies Auxiliary. While working with the Auxiliary, her fondest memory was working with the children in the Special Education program. She went to each of the grammar schools in Lancaster, and with great effort acquired the names and birthdays of each child in each class. With this information in hand she proceeded to bake and decorate cakes to be delivered each Friday to celebrate that child birthday with his or her class. She did this for many years during the 1980s. She was known by the children as 'The Cake Lady'. She truly enjoyed being an active member of her community. In 2000, Jean moved to Bullhead City, Ariz., and lead a quiet life with her husband Dean (of 67 years) and her family. She has passed on, yet will always live in our hearts, love and memories. To sign an online guest book for Jean visit under Marjorie Smith.
