ELLSWORTH, GERTRUDE MARIE TRUD
ELLSWORTH, Gertrude Marie 'Trudy' In less than 11 weeks after losing the love of her life, Trudy went to join her husband Don in their eternal home in heaven. Trudy passed away in her sleep on September 5, 2011, after a lengthy illness. Gertrude Marie was born on Christmas Eve in Chicago, Illinois, where she started her singing career. The winner of the Ted Mack amateur hour (the early version of American Idol), she went on to sing with the big bands of the 1940s. Among some of the bands that she sang with were Tommy and Jimmy Dorsey, Glenn Miller, Duke Ellington, and Lawrence Welk. It was then that she met and married Donald Ellsworth from Wisconsin in 1947. After they were married, they moved to California and settled in Lancaster in 1953. Trudy was a volunteer at Antelope Valley Hospital, a member of the Alter and Rosary Society at Sacred Heart Church, a member of the Emblem Club, and the American Legion Auxiliary. She was a devoted wife and mother, and not only excelled in her duties, but completely treasured what she did. Nothing gave her greater pleasure in life than her family. She was loved by all who had the pleasure of knowing hre. Her kindness, diligence, and thoughtfulness radiated through her wonderful smile. She leaves behind her three daughters; Sheryl Ellsworth, Barbara Nichols, and Nancee Barnett. She is also survived by her son-in-law Fred Barnett, grandchildren Michelle Barnett, Travis Aldave, Frankie and Michael Watson, Stacey Wyatt, Debbie Seeger, Jimmy Wyatt, and 7 great-grandchildren. Viewing will be held at 1 p.m., with Services beginning at 2 p.m., Friday, September 9, 2011, at Joshua Memorial Park & Mortuary, Lancaster. www.joshuamortuary.com
