POWERS, Sgt. Maurice V. In loving memory of retired Air Force Sgt. Maurice Powers, born June 4, 1921, in Harlem, New York. Entered into rest September 1, 2011, in Barstow, Calif. Maurice had been a resident of Boron for the last 25 years. Known as Marty 'Slim' Powers during his 26 year career in the United States Air Force, he was a veteran of World War II, where he was stationed in Australia a gunner on a B-24, as well as the Korean and Vietnam wars. Maurice was also an Alumni of Antelope Valley College where he received his Associate degree in counseling which he used in the six years following his retirement from the USAF as an AA counselor. He belonged to the 1st Sergeants Association, 380th Bomb Group Association as part of the Flying Circus Squadron, Aerial Gunner Association, was a past president of the Red Cross and was a volunteer with the Special Olympics. Maurice is survived by his wife of 52 years, Genevieve of Boron, children: Dennis, Arlene, Kathleen, Ralph and Thomas, as well as 9 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren good long time friends Henry and Cleo. He was preceded in death by two children: daughter, Sandy and son, Maurice Jr., as well as his two brothers: Thomas and William. Viewing will be held at 10 a.m., with Services beginning at 11 a.m., Friday, September 9, 2011, at Halley-Olsen-Murphy Lancaster Chapel. Interment to follow at Lancaster District Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to St. Jude Childrens Hospital. Arrangements provided by Mead Mortuary of Barstow.
