McDONALD, Dorothy C. Born September 22, 1925, in Wheaton, Kansas. Passed away June 12, 2011, in Fort Collins, Colorado. She was married November 14, 1947, to Leslie B. McDonald who preceded her in death. A long-time resident of Palmdale, Dorothy was active in the Palmdale United Methodist Church, Scouts, Palmdale Gem and Mineral Club, the American Field Service and actively displayed at the Lilac Festival. In recognition for her many services to the community she was presented with the Lulu award. A strong supporter of education she went back to school as an adult and earned her Associate in Arts at Antelope Valley College in 1986. Dorothy worked as a teachers aide for schools in the Palmdale, Los Angeles County and the Lancaster School District, the last as a Para Educator Special Education Severe Vision working with visually impaired students. She is survived by sons Greg and his wife Diane McDonald, Scott McDonald and daughter Denise and husband Sam Van Horn and Denises children, Jennifer McCulloch and Matthew Decker and many loving nephews and nieces and their children. The visitation will be held from 3 to 7 p.m., Monday, June 20, 2011, at Chapel of the Valley Mortuary, 1755 East Avenue R, Palmdale with a funeral service at 11 a.m., Tuesday, June 21, 2011, at the Palmdale United Methodist Church, 39055 10th Street West, Palmdale followed by a short graveside service. A reception will be held at the Palmdale United Methodist Church following the graveside service. In lieu of flowers, donations in Dorothys name may be made to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, Pathways Hospice of Northern Colorado in Fort Collins, Colorado or the Palmdale Gem and Mineral Society Scholarship fund.
