DEAN, Dorthea Born May 28, 1924 in Canutillo, Texas. Passed away April 13, 2011, in Stevenson Ranch, Calif. She is survived by her daughter Wanda and daughter Bobbie and her husband Mark, brother Lee and his wife Jean. Dorothy, as she was known to most, grew up on farms in Texas, New Mexico and Arkansas. She attended the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville. During World War II, she served in The Women's Army Corp. in Vienna where she also toured Europe playing baseball and basketball. She married Air Force Master Sargent William Joseph Dean who preceded her in death. They were stationed at Randolph Field in San Antonio, Texas where Joe retired. He continued his career in the aircraft industry and they moved often in Texas, Arkansas and Missouri and finally moved to Lancaster, Calif., in December 1967, where she continued to live for 44 years. She drove a special needs bus for Paul's Line in Lancaster for at least 12 years. She loved her job and did countless volunteer runs for the Special Olympics over the years. She loved her family and friends and was always generous with her time and other resources. She was an expert seamstress who loved to sew clothing, quilts and make crafts. She also loved to garden and had an incredibly green thumb. She was an active member of the Church of Christ. Dorothy was a great mother, a tireless worker and a wonderful friend. A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m., Monday, April 18, 2011, at Chapel of the Valley Mortuary in Palmdale. You may e-mail your condolences to Chapel of the Valley Mortuary, Palmdale Directors.
