OWEN, Fern Emma 95, Fern Emma Owen passed away January 31, 2011, of natural causesat her Orange County residence. She was born to Oscar and Lucy May Daugherty on July 18, 1915, in Paris...Texas that is, while herfather was on assignment for Petroleum Securities. The family returned to Los Angeles, where Fern graduated from Manual Arts High School in 1933. Her pre-World War IIlife included workas a dental assistant. During the War, she volunteered atvarious USO events and dances. Following the War, she met a handsome veteran in Los Angeles, John Owen, and marriedDecember 6, 1946.They eventually settled in Palmdale in 1958, raising 2 sons, John and Neal,while working as a nursein a medical office. Upon retiring,she traveled frequently to Orange County(driving until 93!)and enjoyed following the activities ofher grandkids. She will be remembered for her devotion to family andlifelong love of animals and gardening, frequently entering award-winning irises in shows. She was an active member of Beta SigmaPhiSorority, Alpha OmicronMastersChapter. She will be greatly missed as a loving wife, mother, sister,grandmother,and dear friend to many. Fernis now with those she loved who went before her: her beloved husband of nearly 50 years, John Owen and her brother Raymond "Huck" Daugherty, her parentsand countless friendsand is survived by her children, John and Neal Owen along with 4 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild. A MemorialReception will be held at Antelope Valley Country Club in Palmdale at 2 p.m., Sunday, February 20, 2011.
