GUTIERREZ, Paul 92 years old, passed away of natural causes Tuesday, February 1, 2011. Paul was born October 27, 1918, in Fort Hancock, Texas however he spent his childhood in Los Angeles, Calif. In his early years, Paul enjoyed playing baseball, watching boxing and skating in his neighborhood. Paul grew up during the Depression Era, which led to him finding work at a young age to support his family. Paul served in the United States Army during World War II. While serving in the Army he married and started his family. After serving his country he resided in Lancaster, Calif., where he was a truck driver for more than 35 years. While living in Lancaster he enjoyed spending time with his family, was an avid member and Past Governor of the Moose Lodge, and was also a member of the Elks Lodge and a VFW (Veteran of Foreign Wars) after his military service. He and his wife, Lela, enjoyed traveling around the world, playing a round of golf and fishing. But most of all, he enjoyed entertaining his large family in his home throughout his life. Paul will always be remembered for being a good-hearted person, a hard worker and supportive family man. Paul was preceded in death by his parents, Jesus and Andrea Gutierrez; his wife, Lela Gutierrez; and his daughter, Joan Gutierrez. He is survived by his son, Fred Gutierrez and family of Bakersfield; daughter, Debbie Claudio and family of Lancaster; and siblings: Concha Leyva, Jessie 'Chuey' Gutierrez, Virginia Rodriguez and Dora Guerro. A funeral service will be held Saturday, February 12, 2011, at Father Serra Catholic Church; 42121 North 60th West; Lancaster, CA 93536. Mass will be at 1 p.m., with a reception to follow at the Lancaster Moose Lodge; 44545 Division Street; Lancaster, CA 93535.
