SHIRLEY, Leonard R. Jr. 81, passed away in Lancaster on Jan. 19, 2011. Born in German Town, Pa., in 1929, he grew up in New Jersey until he graduated High School in 1949. He served from 1952 to 1954 in the U.S. Marine Corps, then from 1974 to 1979, in the U.S. Navy Reserves. Living in the Antelope Valley for over 50 years, he enjoyed many careers. Doing building maintenance as a young man, he later had his own hair salon, Leonards Hair Fashions, in Lancaster. Entering the aircraft industry in the mid 1970s he retired in 1992. His retirement was filled with home repairs as a general contractor and restoring antique cars. Leonard is survived by his wife of 31 years, Marguarite (Cole-Eslick) Shirley; 2 daughters Gina (Michael) LaMark of Santa Rosa, Calif., and Maria (Stewart) Cohn of Texas; 2 step-sons, a step-daughter and a daughter-in-law, David Eslick, Ellen Eslick and Suzi Eslick of Lancaster, Calif., and Brian (Leslie) Eslick of Socorro, N.M., a brother, Joseph (Avis) Shirley of Florida. He was loved by 30 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and numerous friends. He was preceded in death by his parents Leonard and Wihelmina Shirley and step-son Clark Eslick. You are invited to Services for Leonard at 2 p.m., Sunday, Jan. 30, 2011, at the Lancaster United Methodist Church, 918 W. Ave J, Lancaster. Sr. Pastor Terry Van Hook officiating, assisted by Bishop James Powell of the Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Church.
