HOLMES, Rodney (Grumpy) William Born Oct. 7, 1945, to John and Betty Holmes. Grumpy departed from us to be with our dear God on Dec. 24, 2010. After moving to California he worked at Valley Presbyterian Hospital in Van Nuys, Calif., and Klune Industrial in North Hollywood, Calif. Grumpy enjoyed going to the Palmdale Moose Lodge 507 and American Legion Post 348 in Palmdale where he was a faithful member and officer for many years. He loved doing his Grumpy Golf Tournament every year the day after Thanksgiving; for 8 years. He was a life time member Order of DeMolay, Eagle, VFW. Grumpy was preceded in death by his son Trevor Boyd Holmes in 1995, and his father John William Holmes in 2008. Grumpy leaves behind his lovely wife Madolyn C. Holmes of Palmdale, his daughter Ronda L. Handley (Jeff) and their two children Jordan Handley and Janay Handley, mother Betty E. Holmes, sisters Carol Oeder (Gary), Sue Forte, brother John Holmes and numerous nieces and nephews, and goddaughter Izebella Pinto, three step-sons Hank Zeman, Alexis Surney and Dwight Shortridge Jr., one step-daughter Madolyn B. Evans (Ron), and 8 step-grandchildren. Special thanks to the Doctors that took care of him, Dr.s Sivakumar, Shanmugam, Damle, Nathan, H. Gill, Hadaya, Medina/Miller. To my friends Debbie Huerta and Marcie Parker, Dave and Rosie Parra all of Palmdale who have been by our side everyday, and for those friends who visited. Thank you nurse Anna from Care South for coming to the house to care for him. A special thanks to Gewn Wilson who married us in August 2008, also the nursing staff at Lancaster Community Hospital/Palmdale Regional Hospital for taking care of him and being my Co-Working family. Viewing will be held from 10 a.m., with Services beginning at 1 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 15, 2011, at Halley- Olsen-Murphy Funerals & Cremations, Palmdale. Reception to follow at the Palmdale Moose Lodge 507 (30th St. E. and Ave Q).
