DOUGHERTY, Barbara Jean Born August 16, 1926, in Upland, California. Passed away November 16, 2010, in Lancaster, California. She grew up in LaVerne, Calif., where she was a Pomona College graduate. She has lived in the Antelope Valley since 1963. She was a substitute teacher for the Lancaster School District for 30 years. She enjoyed reading, going to the theatre and playing scrabble. She was the secretary for the Assistance League of A.V., and was in charge of the Womens Program at United Methodist Church. Survived by sons Michael Dougherty (Carol) of Palmdale, Calif., James Dougherty (Margarita) of Lancaster, Calif., daughter Carolyn Dougherty of Quartz Hill, Calif., grandchildren Laura, Adrienne and Anna Dougherty, sister Ann MacMillan, and sister-in-law Colleen Jeffreys, nieces Debbie Thorpe and Mary Protzko. She is preceded in death by her husband Jack N. Dougherty (1987), parents Emerson and Agnes Newcomer, grandparents Emma and Albert Haworth, Irving and Neffa Newcomer. She was a great wife, mother, aunt, grandmother and friend. Her gentle spirit will be missed by all who knew her. Services will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, December 3, 2010, at United Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the United Methodist Church or Assistance League. Arrangements entrusted to Joshua Memorial Park & Mortuary, Lancaster.
