HAWKINS, CHRISTINE KYLE
HAWKINS, Christine Kyle Just days short of her ninetieth birthday, Christine Kyle Hawkins passed away following a brief battle with pancreatic cancer. Born to Thomas and Elizabeth Kyle in Ten Mile, Tennessee on October 10, 1920, she was third among nine children. At fifteen, she moved with her family to the Antelope Valley. After graduating from Santa Barbara College, Christine taught elementary school in Oxnard, California. In 1970, she and her husband moved to Taos, New Mexico, where they operated the El Monte. There, she indulged her lifelong passion for the arts, befriending many of the regions artists, writers, photographers, and musicians. She traveled extensively throughout her life, always eager to experience, to learn, to grow. For many years after retiring, she volunteered at several of the libraries and museums located in her two favorite cities, Santa Barbara and Santa Fe. She was preceded in death by her husband of 45 years, Wayne Hawkins. She is survived by her brothr, Bill Kyle; her sister, Evelyn Kohler; her brother-in-law Darrell 'Doc' Davis, and 16 nieces and nephews, all of whose lives were enriched and expanded by her generosity of spirit, and her tireless encouragement and support. Visitation will be held from 9 to 11 a.m., with graveside service at 11 a.m., Tuesday, Oct. 12, 2010, both at Joshua Memorial Park & Mortuary, Lancaster. www.joshuamortuary.com
