HERTZ, Lloyd Eugene Passed away September 26, 2010. Born on January 9, 1934, in North Dakota to Anton (Tony) and Anna (Erhardt) Hertz. Lloyd was the youngest of their five children. After Lloyds mother died, Anton married Frances and they added eight more children to the family. Lloyd lived in Missoula, Montana as a child. As a very young man he worked as a ranch hand, mending fences and herding cattle. Later, the Hertz family moved to Renton, Washington. Lloyd served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. Lloyd married Shirley Ann Herlyck in 1958. They had two daughters, Mary Michelle, and Kathy Lynn. They lived in Renton for another 11 years, then moved to Lancaster, California. Lloyd worked as a carpenter his entire life. He also raised alfalfa and farm animals on an 80 acre ranch in the Mojave Desert (Lancaster). Lloyd was married to Shirley for 25 years. When they parted, Shirley moved away, but Lloyd stayed in Lancaster. The girls moved away as adults. Mary went off to college in Whittier, California, and Kathy moved to Seattle, Washington. Lloyd met Veronica McGough, and they spent the next 30 years together at the ranch. Both Lloyd and Veronica have actively volunteered their services to the American Legion and the American Legion Auxiliary for many years. Lloyd served as Commander of Post 311 for three terms. Lloyd is survived by two daughters, Veronica, her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, his seven remaining brothers and sisters, his friend and step-nephew, Danny and his first wife. A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m., Thursday, October 7, 2010, at the American Legion Post 311. All donations can be made Veterans Affairs and Rehabilitation.
