PAYTE, Stephen L. Steve passed away unexpectedly on September 28, 2010, in Lancaster, Calif. He was 56 years old. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, uncle and friend. He was born on July 24, 1954, in Norman, Oklahoma, where he spent his early childhood. He then moved to Simi Valley, California where he graduated from Royal High School, and attended Moorpark College where he played football. Years later, he continued his education at Antelope Valley Junior College. Steve possessed an entrepreneurial spirit. In his early adulthood, as a talented mason, he started his own masonry company. Later, he became a DSA inspector and founded Stephen Payte DSA Inspections, Inc. in addition to working with Lancaster School District until his retirement in 2009. Steve enjoyed coaching his son Stephens baseball teams from t-ball through American Legion. He loved tube fishing on his lake in Oklahoma. He was an avid Oklahoma Sooners fan (Boomer Sooner) and enjoyed sharing his love of OU with his family, friends and colleagues. What brought Steve the most joy was the time he spent with his grandchildren. He is survived by his wife Lari, son, Dylan Payte, daughter, Layla Smith and husband Ryan, daughter, Dori Burnett, son, Stephen Payte and wife Katie, his grandchildren, Jessika Huebert, Kyle Thomas, Garrett Smith, Julia Smith, Makayla Payte, Alyssa Casanova, Maxwell Payte and Abrielle Payte, his mother Jean Payte, brother, David Payte and wife Bonnie, and niece Trista Payte. He was preceded in death by his father, Gene Payte, his niece, Lara Payte and cousin, Gerald Payte. A Memorial Service for Steve will be held at 12:30 p.m., Saturday, October 9, 2010, at Forest Lawn, Hollywood Hills, at the Church of the Hills, 6300 Forest Lawn Drive, Los Angeles, CA 90068. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his name at the Hope Harbor Childrens Home at P.O. Box 1047, Claremore, OK 74018.
