SABSAY, ARLETTA JO
SABSAY, Arleeta Jo Born to Edward and Pearl Borden on February 24, 1924, in Grady, New Mexico. Passed away in Morgan Hill, California, on September 24, 2010, at the age of 86. Jo married Herman Sabsay in Las Vegas, Nevada, on February 2, 1956. Jo was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She loved gardening and music and all aspects of the arts. She also devoted time for church, school activities, the Antelope Valley Arts Council, the Community Concerts Association and the Lancaster Womans Club. The Antelope Valley Arts Council was instrumental in initiating the idea of a performing arts center in Lancaster to the City Council and was pleased to have been a board member of the Arts Council at that time. She also was an initial participant in the American Cancer Societys Prevention Study, which is still ongoing. In reflecting on the need to give back to the community by working with these organizations was her way of helping to enrich the lives of the people in Antelope Valley. Survivors include her husband, Herman, son, Scott Sabsay and his wife, Catherine (Cathy), of Gilroy, Calif., daughter, Janeece Gonzalez and her husband, Carlos, of Garland, Texas, and brother, Odis Borden and his wife, Jeanne, of Independence, Mo. Other living relatives include a grandson, Daniel Ryan Sabsay and granddaughter, Kimberly Robin Sabsay, of Gilroy, Calif., and numerous nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews. Deceased relatives include her parents, Edward and Pearl (Dycus) Borden, brothers, Leo and Dale Borden, sisters, Verda Brown and Pat (Cleo) Peguesse, and half-sister, Willie Mae Fogerson and half-brother, Frank Borden. A private burial service was held at Joshua Memorial Park in Lancaster, California.
