Obituary Notices and Memorials

FOX, George Ainslie Passed away at his home in Chico, Calif., on Monday, July 19, 2010, at 7:30 in the evening. He was surrounded by his wife, two of his sons, and a granddaughter. He was born on August 1, 1924, in Huntington Park, Calif., to George Francis and Gladys Fox. It was here that at the age of 15, he met the love of his life, Ruth Priscilla Brown. They were married on October 22, 1942, and welcomed the first of their four sons, George Winthrop Fox, in August of 1943. George served in France and England during World War II from 1943 to 1945. It was one of only two times that he and Ruth were apart throughout their marriage, and they 'didnt care for it.' In 1957, they moved with their family which had grown to include Martin in 1951, and Jeffrey in 1955, to Lancaster, Calif., where George took up his career with Allstate Insurance and joined the Elk and Moose lodges. In 1959, youngest son Robert joined the family. It was while in Lancaster that George and Ruth obtained a cabin at Camp Nelson, Calif., that became the family gathering place and the wellspring of magical and happy memories for their children and grandchildren. After years of caring for elderly parents, George and Ruth closed the chapter on their lives in Lancaster and moved to Sun City West, Ariz. There, George got to indulge his lifelong interests in cars and golf full-time. George had many health crises in his life including bypass surgery in 1972, making him one of the earliest recipients of this procedure. That he survived these crises is attributed by all who knew him to the great love he had for his wife. He did not want to leave her alone. He was a kind, caring, patient man who was a great storyteller and took joy in life and especially in his family, which, in addition to his 4 sons, includes 3 in-laws, 9 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. A Memorial Service was arranged and officiated by son Martin on Saturday, July 24, 2010, Chico.
