COWELL, Lawrence Wayne, 65, was born June 21, 1945, in Colfax, Wisconsin, the oldest child of Alvin Nathan and Mary Anne (Sokup) Cowell, and passed away August 15, 2010, in Bakersfield, California. Larry attended school in Mondovi, Wisconsin, prior to enlisting in the Navy where he proudly served aboard the Carrier USS Kearsarge and witnessed the rescue of two of the Mercury space capsules in the 1960's. Following his honorable discharge, he was employed by Lockheed Aircraft in Burbank and Palmdale, Calif., until his retirement due to ill health, after which he resided in Bakersfield, Calif., until his death. He was preceded in death by his parents, Alvin and Mary Anne Cowell, a younger brother, Terrence Nathan Cowell and nephews Jon Candell, Anthony Scott Cowell and Michael Cowell. Larry is survived by one daughter, Elizabeth Cook, grandchildren Nichole and Dustin Cook of Palmdale as well as a very dear and loving friend, Susan in Bakersfield. Other survivors include brothers, Lonnie Cowell of Billings, Mont., Randy (Lynn) Cowell of Altoona, Wis., Mark Cowell of Altoona, sisters Linda (Patrick) Candell of Eau Claire, Wis., and Deborah Anne (Edward) Lowenhagen of Altoona, and many nieces and nephews. Cremation has taken place and services will full military honors for Lawrence Wayne Cowell will be held at 2 p.m., Wednesday, August 18, 2010, at Quartz Hill VFW, Post 3000, 4342 W. Ave L. Placement of the ashes will occur at a later date as per Larrys wishes.
