DODSON, JR., JAMES BENNETT
DODSON Jr., James Bennett With deep sorrow we announce the passing of our loving husband and father, James Bennett Dodson Jr., of Grand Prairie, Texas (formerly of Quartz Hill, Calif.) on July 21, 2010. He was born April 4, 1922, in Princeton and raised in Paducah, Ky. Jim was predeceased by his 1st wife of 42 years, June Hurd Dodson, and is survived by their 4 children, Dawn Dodson, Linda Malzer, Marsha 'Marti' Jollensten, James Bennett Dodson III, 13 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. Jim is survived by his wife of 18 years, Anna Mitchell Dodson and her children Joanna Freeman and Margaret Chapman, 3 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. Jim was a man of service to his God, his country, his community and most of all his family. He was a devout, lifelong member of the Church of Christ and performed many acts of service including helping at the Food Pantry. He was also a friend to the 1st Baptist Church where he performed service with Master's Builders. He was in the military during World War II, Korea and Vietnam War Eras. He retired after 23 years combined service between the Marine Corps and Air Force. Never idle, in subsequent careers Jim worked for Westside Union School District and Lockheed Aircraft in Quartz Hill, Calif. He graduated from the Police Academy and served as a Corrections Officer with the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department. In addition to his careers, Jim furthered his education by obtaining his AA degree from Antelope Valley College and a real estate license. Jim was also active in the community. He was a little league coach, served as a volunteer fireman and was on the Water District Board of Directors while living in Quartz Hill. During his lifetime he continued his acts of service as a member of several fraternal and community organizations. Jim was a humble, giving man who touched many lives and he will be deeply missed by many. If you choose, in lieu of flowers and in the generous spirit of Jim, please donate to the charity of your choice. Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m., Monday, July 26, 2010, at Bean- Massey-Burge Funeral Home in Grand Prairie; Funeral Service will be held at 10 a.m., Tuesday, July 27, 2010, at First Baptist Church of Grand Prairie. Private Burial to follow at Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery. Arrangements entrusted to Bean-Massey-Burge Funeral Home, Grand Prairie, Texas. 972-263-7200.
