JAMES, George "Jesse" Jr. 83, a resident of Greenfield, formerly of Calif., passed away Wednesday, June 23, 2010, at Hancock Regional Hospital after complications from surgery. He was born July 6, 1926, in Bayonne, N.J., to the late George and Mary James. George attended elementary and college prep schools in New Jersey. He enlisted in the Army Air Corp and was assigned to Naples, Italy where he flew transport aircraft during World War II. After receiving his honorable discharge and with the required study he became a degreed engineer and worked for Convair, General Dynamics, Fairchild Aircraft, Boeing and finally settled in Lancaster, Calif., in 1965, working for NASA at Edwards Air Force Base. His efforts at that time were split between general dynamics flight and NASA'S development of the F-111A Structural Aircraft. He was a member of the Wayside Chapel in Rosamond, Calif. He is survived by his children, Jeffrey L. James of Greenfield, Ind., and Melody A. Doull of Rosamond, Calif.; grandchildren, David, Shawn and Travis James, Jake Doull, Danielle James, Jessica Doull, Tara Perdue and Janee Doull; and great-grandchildren, Chad Hastings, Ashton Williams, and Summer Ranae Perdue. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 49 years, Loretta Ann James, who died an untimely death; son, Zachary A. James; granddaughter, Desiree James; and his sister, Geraldine Skoll. Services will be held in Greenfield, Indiana on August 14, 2010. Arrangements have been entrusted to Stillinger Family Funeral Home, Pasco Chapel, Greenfield. Online condolences may be shared at
