TAFT, Lawrence Monroe Born January 19, 1918, in Richmond Hills, N.Y. Passed away July 3, 2010, in Lancaster, Calif. He grew up in Kew Gardens, N.Y., served during World War II in 82nd airborne 508 Parachute Infantry Mustered out of the 507th. He participated in the D-Day Normandy invasion in 1944, served in the Andennes during the Battle of the Bulge and received a Purple Heart during this campaign. He has lived in the Antelope Valley for 25 years. He was a self employed auto mechanic specializing in Cadillac motor cars. Survived by his wife of 62 years Harriet Taft, sons Richard Taft of El Sobrante, Calif., Alan Taft of Simi Valley, Calif., daughter Nancy Finkel of Lancaster, Calif., grandchildren, Alan Taft, Eddie Taft, David Taft, Brian Miller, Michelle Miller, Devin Taft and Brennan Taft. Viewing will be held from 4 to 8 p.m., Thursday, July 8, 2010, with Services at 1 p.m., Friday, July 9, 2010, both at Joshua Memorial Park & Mortuary, Lancaster.
