HATCHER, Herbert Leon born June 20, 1927, in Yuma, Ariz. Passed away May 31, 2010, in Lancaster, Calif. He grew up in Wetumka, Oklahoma. He served in the Navy during World War II. He moved to the Antelope Valley in 1947, working for N.A.C.A., before it became NASA, working there for 40 years, he received numerous awards given by NASA for aeronautical inventions that benefitted the future technology of aircraft flight, in and out of space; worked at High Desert Medical Group for 14 years. He enjoyed fishing. Survived by his wife of 62 years Tillie Ramos Hatcher, sons, Kenneth Hatcher of Lancaster, Calif., Curtis Hatcher of Fairbanks, Alaska, daughters Sheryl (John) Palmer of San Antonio, Texas, Vickie (Dan) Sweeney of Round Mountain, Nev. and Teresa Kelso of Lancaster, Calif., eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Also survived by one sister and numerous extended family members. Preceded in death by daughter Darnell Knapp. Visitation will be held from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m., services at 11:30 a.m., with graveside to follow, Saturday, June 5, 2010, all at Joshua Memorial Park & Mortuary, Lancaster.
