BUEGE, Hilbert H. 'Papa' Longtime Valley resident, Hilbert 'Papa' Buege, passed away at the age of 93 on March 22, 2010. Hilbert was born and raised in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He later moved to San Antonio, Texas, where he received his Bachelor's Degree from Trinity University. He joined the U.S. Air Force, retiring as a Master Sergeant. He was stationed in Germany and Korea, and also earned a Master's Degree in Sociology while serving. Hilbert moved to Lancaster in the early 1960's, where he met and married Frances 'Fran' Sheldon in 1967. She would be his wife for almost 40 years, until her passing in 2006. Hilbert was employed for many years as a Security Specialist at Edwards Air Force Base where he was also active as a member on the Board of Directors for Edwards Federal Credit Union. He and Fran were members of the Lancaster Presbyterian Church for many years. Hilbert served as a Church Elder, and both he and Fran belonged to the Church's Mariner's Group. They also enjoyed traveling the U.S., and Mexico in their motor home, 'Matilda,' joined by the many friends they made as members of the Good Sam Club. Hilbert was an avid reader, especially enjoying biographies. He also published a collection of his own poetry. He enjoyed gardening and grew beautiful roses. Both the poetry and roses were widely enjoyed by his family and friends. After his retirement, Hilbert donated over 7,000 hours as a volunteer for the Antelope Valley Hospital Medical Center Lifeline Program, assisting hundreds of elderly clients retain their independence through his installation and maintenance of the Lifeline product. Hilbert was preceded in death by his wife, Frances "Fran" Buege. He is survived by his son, William Buege of Corona, Calif.; his daughter Valerie Grebe and her husband William Grebe of Center Point, Texas; step-son Geoffrey Sheldon and his wife, Patricia Conklin Sheldon of San Diego, Calif.; step-son William Sheldon of Lancaster, Calif.; daughter-in-law Sheila Ankrum Hartley and her husband Paul Hartley of Yorba Linda, Calif.; niece Elaine Murry and her husband Larry Murry of Springfield, Ma.; grandchildren Christopher Sheldon and Timothy Sheldon of San Diego, Calif., Byron Buege of Corona, Calif., Stacy Buege Moquin and her husband Jason Moquin of Corona, Calif.; great-grandchildren Courtney Buege, Bradley Buege, Ashley Moquin, and Emily Moquin of Corona, Calif.; and grand-nephew Byron Murry of Springfield, Ma. Hilbert's ashes will be joined by those of his wife at Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery overlooking the Pacific Ocean in San Diego. 'Papa' always had a twinkle in his eye, and was a kind and giving soul who will be dearly missed by his family and friends.
