Obituary Notices and Memorials

PALKO, Joseph Peter passed away on Sunday March 14, 2010 after a 15 month battle with lung cancer. More than anything, Joe lived his life to the fullest. Joe was known for his sense of adventure, ability to easily make friends, humor, and generous spirit. He was an avid motocross rider and record-breaking bow hunter. He enjoyed sharing these activities with others, especially his son David. Joe was born in Kittery, Maine. As a child he lived in locations around the U.S. and the world as part of a military family. As an adult he made his home in El Paso, Texas where he started his career in the construction industry. He most recently completed a multi-stage housing project at Edwards Air Force Base as General Superintendant with the Hunt Companies. He previously completed multiple projects as founder of his own company, Upland Building Corporation. Joe is survived by his son, David Palko; his parents, USAF Col (ret.) Edmund Palko and Jo Palko; and his sisters Mary Palko, Susan Palko-Schraa, Kimberly Palko, and Monica Palko. A celebration of Joe's life will be held at 11 am on April 10, 2010 at Grace Gardens in El Paso. It will be followed by a BBQ reception. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation. Joe made people laugh in spite of themselves or the situation and he gave everything he had to support and encourage others. He lived by the motto "when in doubt throttle out." He will be greatly missed.
