ARTHUR, ANN MARIE
ARTHUR, Ann Marie Wife, Mother, Sister and Friend June 21, 1923 ~ Feb. 11, 2010 Ann was born to Elzie Wilson and Buna Lucas in Cordell, Oklahoma. Her only sibling was her older brother, George. She was an active and determined child, given the nickname 'Doodlebug' by a family friend. The name was shortened to 'Dude' and those that knew her then still refer to her by her nickname. Her early years were spent in Clinton, Oklahoma, where she attended grammar school and the Methodist Church. The family moved to California in 1938. She attended Brawley High School, graduating in 1942. After school, she followed in her mothers footsteps, becoming a switchboard operator for Pacific Bell. While out on the town with friends she was introduced to and charmed by a former Marine, who danced her socks off. She married Walter Edward Arthur (Pete) on May 31, 1948, in Brawley, California. Her new husband whisked her away to his beloved Colorado to begin their new life together, returning to California in 1953. Ann went to work for General Telephone Company as a switchboard operator once more. She was the first recipient in the State of California to receive the companys LeCroix Award for heroism in 1955. She was a life time member of ITPA and the CWA. She retired in 1985. Their sixty years together produced one daughter, Debbie, and two sons, Don and Ken. From there the family expanded to five grandchildren: Jeffrey, Leeann, Don, Adrian and Rachel; and nine great- grandchildren: Amanda, Taylor, Josh, Daniel, Gavin, Talan, Shannon, Kobee and Amber. In 1986, she and Pete returned to 'Gods country' once again. That lasted only four years, until the desire to see their kids again became strong. They returned to Lancaster and remained there until God called them home. Ann and Pete, her husband of 60 years, are together once again. She was loved very much and will be missed by all.
