Obituary Notices and Memorials

MORNINGSTAR, David 88, of Camarillo, died Wednesday, February 17, 2010, in Santa Barbara, following a brief illness. He was born October 11, 1921, in Mobile, Alabama, and had been a Ventura County resident 12 years, coming from Lancaster, Calif. Dave proudly served his country in the United States Army Signal Corps during World War II. He had been an electrical technician with Lockheed Martin, retiring in 1986. Dave was active in B'Nai B'rith International, the oldest, continually operating Jewish service organization in the world. His hobbies included Ham Radio, bocce ball, and photography, and he loved long walks and fresh air. Always a jazz music lover, Dave particularly enjoyed dancing, singing and evenings out at jazz clubs. He had also sung in a barbershop quartet. Throughout his life, Dave maintained a fascination with how things work, especially new technology. For many people, he was their oldest friend on Facebook. Dave is survived by his loving daughters and sons-in-law, Judi Morningstar and Alberto Kywi of Ojai, and Shari Morningstar and Steven Gustafson of Royal Oak, Mich.; and grandchildren, Robert, Anna and Noam, whom he adored. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Barbara, in 1999. Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m., Sunday, February 21, 2010, at Ivy Lawn Memorial Park, 5400 Valentine Rd., Ventura, with Rabbi Lisa Hochberg-Miller of Temple Beth Torah officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of the Ted Mayr Funeral Home and Crematory, 3150 Loma Vista Rd., Ventura.
