RAMSEY, Rev. John Joseph Went to be with his Lord on Jan. 18, 2010. John was born on Oct. 13, 1914, in Wellston, Ohio to Earl Ramsey and Margaret Mathias. He married Nellie Elizabeth Huffman on Dec. 4, 1937. In 1941, they moved to Sebring, Florida where he worked at Hendricks Field for the war department. He became a Christian while living in Sebring and was very instrumental in building the first Nazarene Church there. In 1946, they moved to Pasadena, Calif., where he attended the Pasadena Nazarene College. After graduating in 1951, the family came to the Antelope Valley as pastor of the Church of the Nazarene in Palmdale. He helped build the church at Ave. Q and 9th St. East where he served for 7 years. He then went to Littlerock and started another Nazarene church where he stayed for 19 years. He also worked for the U.S. Postal Service for 23 years. After his retirement he continued his ministry with various other churches across the U.S. His life was devoted to serving the Lord performing weddings and funerals for the people he loved. After his beloved wife Nellie went to be with the Lord he began traveling around the U.S. He was loved by all those he touched. He loved the Lord with all his heart. He is survived by his 5 sons and their wives, John W., wife Patricia, Earl D., wife Billie, Fred A., wife Dottie, Bayne L., wife Linda and Wayne A., 17 grandchildren, 17 great- grandchildren, 1 great-great-grandchild, and sister, Margaret Alice Crawford of Springfield, Ohio. He will be missed by all, but will not be forgotten.Visitation will be held from 3 to 7 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 28, 2010, at Chapel of the Valley Mortuary. Visitation will from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m., with funeral services to be held at 11a.m., at the New Life Church of the Nazarene, 44339 N. Beech Ave. Lancaster, Calif., with Pastor Fred Ramsey officiating. Interment to follow at Lancaster District Cemetery. In lieu of flowers please make donations to the Nazarene Compassionate Ministries. Email condolences to the family at Chapel of the Valley Mortuary, Palmdale, Directors.
