SPANIOL, EARL FRANKLIN
SPANIOL, Earl Franklin 92, Beloved Husband, Father, Grandpa and Great-grandpa, joined Our Lord Jesus on January 19, 2010, in Lancaster, Calif. He was born on July 19, 1917, in Pittsfield, Massachusetts. Earl went to school at Sterns and Pomroy through 8th grade and Pittsfield High in Pittsfield, Mass. Earl joined the Navy Air Corp., in 1937, and served on the original USS Lexington as an aviation machinists mate, second class. He flew in the SP2U2 and then in the SBD Dauntless Aircraft. After leaving the Navy, he worked at Douglas Aircraft, then Northrop in 1947. He worked in Hawthorne and Edwards AFB and in Palmdale. Married the woman of his dreams, Elsie. He loved baseball, fishing, swimming, football, reciting poems and rhymes (Shave and a hair cut...two bits) and being a part of his sons lives. Earl had the rare experience of seeing a Total Eclipse. He retired in 1982, as Manager of 2nd Shift Assembly and Flight Operations. Earl and Elsie lived in their Lancaster Home for over 50 years before moving to Merrill Gardens for 5 years and then moved to Prestige Assisted Living in Lancaster in October, 2009. They were members of Fin and Feather Club in Palmdale since 1955. They belong to Lancaster First Assembly of God. Earl is survived by his wife, Elsie Spaniol, their 63rd Anniversary would have been Feb. 1. Sons, Earl Spaniol (Cheryl) of Lancaster, Calif., Vince Spaniol (Brenda) of Medford, Ore., and Don Hovis, of Welches, Ore. Earl has 10 grandchildren and 19 great- grandchildren. Chapel and graveside service will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, January 30, 2010, at Joshua Memorial Park & Mortuary, Lancaster. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Lancaster First Assembly of God c/o Royal Family Kids Camp for Abused and Neglected children. 44514 20th St. West, Lancaster, CA 93534.
