HANSON, Donald H. At 88 years of age, longtime resident of the Antelope Valley, Donald passed at his home on January 9, 2010. Born December 31, 1921 in Gettysburg, South Dakota to Roy and Evelyn Hanson where he worked on the familys wheat farm. He served with the Navy and was a veteran of WWII. After his service, he made his way to California where he shared his energy as an accomplished ballroom dancer and instructor in the Fall/Winter months and worked the farm in the Spring/Summer. He eventually moved to the Antelope Valley for fresh air and wide-open spaces where he became a chinchilla rancher for many years. He also had a love for animals, especially horses, and was actively involved with taking his girls all over California competing in horse shows. He retired from Lockheed Martin in 1987 as an aircraft mechanic. He is survived by his daughters, Gigi Hammang (Tom) and Wendy Quicksell (Bill), grandchildren, Ahsley Hammang, Shannel and Alexis Quicksell. His parents Roy and Evelyn Hanson and sister, Dolores Leaf precede him in death. On Sunday January 17, 2010 a memorial service will be held at the Quartz Hill VFW at 12:30pm with a celebration of his life to follow from 2-5pm at 41161 Summitview Lane, Palmdale, CA 93551.
