Obituary Notices and Memorials

BENCH, Dorothy Fern 83, passed away on Thursday, December 31, 2009, in Lancaster, Calif., with her family and close friends by her side. Born October 1926, to Gerald and Lillian Foster in Michigan, she grew up in Missouri surrounded by aunts, uncles and cousins. It was in West Plains that she fell in love with and married Darrel Bench. They were married 54 years before he passed away in 1997. Darrel said the reason they got along so well is because she told him what to do and he did it. Dorothys ambition was to be a devoted wife to Darrel and good mother to Michael and Larry. Good would be an understatement of her success. Sewing was her hobby of choice and there are many quilts, pillowcases, aprons and totes for a constant reminder of her love and generosity. She loved the outdoors, sunsets, fishing in the High Sierras and being on the go with friends and family. She maintained her close family ties to Missouri, even after the move to California. E-mail was a blessing! Dorothy departed to join her husband, Darrel and her son Larry. Dorothy will be fondly and lovingly remembered by her children Michael and his wife, Terrie; grandchildren Lisa and her husband Robbie; John and his wife Angela; Jeffery and fiancĀŽ Tiffany; Melissa and her husband Jacob and great-grandchildren, William, Kyle, Matthew, Nathaniel, Kristi, Andrew, Dillon, Ryan, Allie and Peyton. A Memorial Service will be held from 1 to 4 p.m., Sunday, January 10, 2010, at Elegant Affairs. Graveside services will be held in West Plains, Missouri in the spring. Arrangements entrusted to Halley-Olsen-Murphy, Lancaster.
