World Airports buying more Palmdale landThis story appeared in the Antelope Valley Press September 9, 1998.LOS ANGELES - Los Angeles World Airports continues to piece together all the land within the area outlined for the future airport east of Palmdale. World Airports directors will vote Tuesday whether to pay $25,000 for 1.25 acres of land owned by Alice M. Vierra. Of the 17,757 acres outlined for the future airport, Los Angeles World Airports owns 17,451. The Los Angeles County Sanitation District still owns 271.5 acres on two parcels, and Southern California Edison Co. still owns 4.2 acres on one parcel. There is no effort by Los Angeles World Airports to buy those parcels at this time, according to World Airports documents. World Airports is negotiating to buy five parcels totaling 12 acres, an airports spokeswoman said. There are still 10 parcels with 19.6 acres that can't be purchased because of title problems.
Also on Tuesday, L.A. Department of World Airports commissioners will vote on a proposal to add $45,344 to its contract with Lightning Fence Co. for installation of additional barbed wire fencing, gates and signs at Palmdale Regional Airport. Airport index Valley Press home page |
