JetHawks taken by StormLake Elsinore overcame a 5-0 deficit to win its fifth straight game
By DAVE RASBACH After proving they can win on the road, the JetHawks have yet to play effectively at the usually friendly confines of Lancaster Municipal Stadium. After seven innings of Saturday's game with Lake Elsinore, Lancaster trailed 8-5 in game it will probably kick itself for letting slip away. Lancaster jumped on top with four runs in the first. Luis Tinoco, Karl Thompson and Joel Ramirez all had RBI singles, while Jason Regan scored Ramon Vazquez with a sacrifice fly. Matt Sachse gave the JetHawks a 5-0 lead with a leadoff home run in the second inning. The blast was Sachse's second in three games. Lancaster appeared ready to add to the lead when speedy Anton French drew a no-out walk. Lake Elsinore pitcher Brian Tokarse was determined not to allow French his second stolen base of the game. After a pitchout and numerous throws over to first, Tokarse finally picked him off on a disputed play. Inspired by that out, Tokarse finally began to find his rhythm. He retired the next 11 JetHawks he faced and 16 of the last 17 he faced. As if on cue, the Lake Elsinore offense also got rolling in the third inning. And much like in Friday's game, the Storm relied on the long ball. Freddy Diaz opened the third with a double, before Greg Morris singled him in, ending Jason Bond's nine-inning shutout streak. Steve Hagins then homered to center field to narrow the JetHawks' lead to 5-3. Hagins' home run was his fourth in two nights at The Hangar. Jason Dewey hit a solo home run in the fourth to reduce the lead to one run, before Cesar Geronimo doubled in the tying run. Bond, who picked up a complete-game shutout in his last outing Sunday at Rancho Cucamonga, wasn't as effective Saturday. He allowed five earned runs on nine hits and a walk in 4 1/3 innings.
The Storm took the lead with three runs in the top of the seventh thanks
to RBI singles by Shawn Wooten and Jason Dewey and a wild pitch by Lancaster
reliever Allan Westfall. |
