LANCASTER - While a couple of major leaguers were prominent in Saturday night's California League game between Stockton and Lancaster, it was a couple of familiar faces who paced the JetHawks to a 12-5 victory over the Ports.
Shane Monahan hit two home runs and Jesus Marquez had five RBI to lift a Lancaster team that now has two Seattle Mariners on its roster.
Seattle pitcher Bob Wolcott, who's with the JetHawks during the Major League All-Star break and will start on Wednesday night, joined teammate Ricky Jordan, who's on a rehab assignment, on the Lancaster roster.
When he was introduced to the crowd, Wolcott, who pitched in last year's American League Championship series, received a rousing welcome from the Lancaster crowd.
That wasn't all the crowd had to cheer about Saturday. Monahan hit homers in the first (a solo shot) and eighth (three-run shot) innings and Marquez, batting in front of Jordan, drove in five runs with a triple and a seventh-inning home run.
Monahan's eighth-inning homer was retribution for a seventhinning beaning by Stockton starting pitcher Joe Wagner.
"I was still fired up from when he hit me, I knew it was intentional," Monahan said. "It kind of got tom me and it kind of hurt.
"But, what hurts more is they got the loss and they got shellacked the way they did."
Jordan, the designated hitter who's a veteran of nine major league seasons, had a single in four at-bats.
Marquez' fifth-inning triple broke open a close game.
With the JetHawks leading 3-2, Marquez tripled in Mike Lanza and Jason Cook. In his next at-bat, in the seventh, Marquez hit a three-run homer off Stockton relief pitcher Books Drysdale.
The home run was the 12th for Marquez.
It was a good night all around for Lancaster hitters. Eight starters had hits and they needed them, because the team also made a season-high six errors.
Despite the errors, Lancaster had one bright spot on defense: third baseman Shawn Buhner. Buhner, making his first start at third base this season, made two stellar plays.
In the second inning, he tagged out Joe DeBerry, who was trying to go to third base after Jesus Marquez misplayed the ball in right field. Then in the fourth, he made a diving catch of Drew Williams' foul pop.
Buhner added a solo home run in the eighth inning.
Mario Santana picked up the victory for Lancaster.
