Manager Dave Brundage won't have much trouble praising the JetHawks' offensive performance: Twelve runs and 14 hits in the first seven innings, and the 10 strikeouts Marino Santana compiled in six innings.
But glance over at the Blaze's side of the ledger, and you'll see Josh Watts, a Mariners' farmhand who is on loan to co-op Bakersfield, had hits in his first three at-bats.
As of press time, Lancaster was leading Bakersfield 15-7 in the top of the ninth in front of 797 at Sam Lynn Ballpark. The JetHawks were on their way to improving to 7-6 in the California league's second half, while the Blaze would drop to 2-11.
The JetHawks took a 3-0 lead in the first on Doug Carroll's three-run homer, his 12th of the season and fifth as a JetHawk.
After Jesus Marquez singled and Scott Smith walked with two outs, Carroll hit Bakersfield starter Toure Knighton's first pitch over the wall in right-center field.
Lancaster starter Marino Santana, who had 10 strikeouts in his six-inning outing, was inconsistent through the first three innings, striking out five and giving up two solo homers.
Alex Cabrera's fourth homer of the season, a drive over the left field fence, cut the JetHawks' lead to 3-1 in the second.
The JetHawks came back with two runs in the third to take a 5-1 lead.
Jason Cook singled to lead off the inning, and went to third one batter later on Smith's single.
Carroll struck out, but both runners scored on Carlos Villalobos' triple to the gap in right-center field.
Watts hit his third homer since joining the Blaze out of extended spring training in the third that made it 5-2.
The Blaze took advantage of a Santana throwing error and scored twice in the fifth to cut the lead to 5-4.
Andreaus Lewis singled to lead off and Craig Daedelow walked. With No. 9 hitter Ken Teasley at the plate, Santana tried to pick Lewis off second, but his throw went into center field.
Lewis scored on the error, making it 5-3. Two outs later, Watts singled home Daedelow to cut the Lancaster lead to a run.
Back came the JetHawks in the sixth.
James Clifford led off with a double, and Scot Sealy walked.
After Mike Lanza struck out, Shane Monahan laid down a bunt single to load the bases for Cook, who had singled in his last two atbats.
Knighton got Cook to pop out shortstop, however.
Marquez came up and hit a 2-2 pitch over Lewis' head in center that cleared the bases and made it 8-4.
Marquez was third in the Cal League in RBI, with 57, entering the game. Modesto's D.T. Cromer led the league through Sunday's game with 63.
Knighton, who beat the JetHawks in his last start, gave up eight runs on 10 hits in six innings and struck out six.
Lewis' groundout in the bottom of the sixth against a tiring Santana scored Chris Paxton to make it 8-5.
Santana struck out Daedelow on his 99th pitch of the game with Cabrera in the second to end the sixth.
Reliever Mark Lukasiewicz came on in the seventh for the Blaze and had a miserable time.
He hit Carroll with his first pitch, gave up a single to Villalobos, misplayed a bunt by Clifford that went for a single, and gave up a two-run double to Sealy that gave the JetHawks a 10-5 lead.

An RBI single by Cook, his third hit of the game, drove in Sealy with the JetHawks' 12th run.
