LANCASTER - It was marketed as "The Sequel" to the first home game in the history of the Lancaster JetHawks, and in many ways it was.

The JetHawks hit home runs, saw another strong pitching performance from a starting pitcher and beat the Visalia Oaks, 7-2, Wednesday night at The Hangar.

Lancaster won its third in a row and improved to 10-4 in the California League in front of a paid attendance of 3,723. The Oaks (5-9) lost their fourth in a row.

Shane Monahan went 4-for-4 with two RBI and hit his second home run of the season, an opposite field drive to left-center field to highlight the JetHawks' 11-hit effort.

Monahan, who was the designated hitter, came to the plate in the sixth needing a triple to hit for the cycle. He singled up the middle.

He said he wasn't disappointed.

"Not a bit," he said. "This is the third time I've been close (as a professional)."

He upped his average to an even .400 (26-for-65). He leads the team in hits and has 12 RBI.

"When (Monahan) does things correctly, he shows what he can do," Brundage said. "He showed that in spring training for about a 3-4 game span. He's a talented young hitter."

Dusty Wathan also hit a three-run homer, his second of the year, for the JetHawks. In two games at The Hangar, Lancaster has collected 22 hits and 14 runs.

Starting pitcher Bob Worley threw seven scoreless innings to win his second in a row for the JetHawks. Worley struck out six, walked two and scattered six hits.

"I didn't dominate," Worley said. "They had some hard-hit balls off me, but I was able to spread them around."

Worley hasn't given up a run in his last two starts, both wins for the JetHawks.

"That's three outings in a row where (Worley)'s done his job," JetHawks manager Dave Brundage said. "He looks like he's stepping in the right direction."

No Oaks player reached third base against Worley until the seventh, when Eric Danapillis singled and went to third on an error by left fielder Marcus Sturdivant on Del Marine's single.

Worley struck out Keith Kimsey, who was 2-for-2 off him in the game, and Yuri Sanchez to get the next two outs.

Bo Durkac grounded out to second as Worley kept the Oaks off the board.

"(Worley) threw some quality pitches in a tough situation," Lancaster pitching coach Juan Eichelberger said.

Thanks to a bit of hustle by Jesus Marquez, the JetHawks took a 1-0 lead in the third off Visalia starter Gary Goldsmith.

With runners on first and third and one out, Marquez hit a double-play grounder to shortstop but beat out the throw to first to allow Monahan to score from third.

Monahan led off the fifth with a solo homer to touch off a four-run inning for Lancaster, capped by Wathan's homer to right field.

On his home run, Monahan raised his right fist in the air as he rounded first.

"It was still a close game, and I was just fired up," Monahan said.

Tim Trawick pitched the last two innings for the JetHawks, giving up a solo homer to Kimsey that made it 7-2.
