Through the first five innings at Mavericks Stadium Monday night, Lancaster looked like the worst.
The JetHawks had scored just one run and gotten just two hits in making High Desert starter Matt Marenghi look like the second coming of Greg Maddux.
That all changed after a brief team meeting above the dugout steps.
Lancaster exploded for 14 runs over the next three innings and beat the Mavericks 15-3 in front of 835 to complete the season-opening 12-game road trip 8-4.
James Clifford had his second five RBI game on a pair of home runs and Marino Santana got his first victory of the year to highlight the JetHawks' 12th game in as many days.
Clifford was among the more animated Lancaster players who huddled in front of their dugout before batting in the sixth.
Five minutes later, he was circling the bases after hitting his second homer of the season, a three-run shot that gave Lancaster a 4-2 lead.
The JetHawks had taken a 1-0 lead in the second on Jason Cook's RBI groundout to second base, but the Mavericks went ahead 2-1 in the fourth.
With runners on second and third and one out, Bryan Bogle hit a run-scoring sacrifice fly and Fletcher Thompson drove in another run with a single to right field.
Thompson over-ran the bag, though, and Shane Monahan threw to first baseman Clifford, who tagged Thompson out trying to scramble back to first.
The JetHawks retook the lead in the sixth with four runs, highlighted by Clifford's three-run homer to right field.
Cook also had an RBI double on a blooper that just landed inside the right field line, driving in Jesus Marquez all the way from first.
Pitching with a 5-2 lead, Santana responded with a nine-pitch inning in the sixth, setting down the side in order.
After Lancaster added six more runs in the seventh, Santana gave way to John Daniels. Santana gave up two earned runs and struck out three.
In the seventh, the JetHawks blew the game open against reliever Tim Olszewski, who came on for starter Marenghi in the sixth.
Villalobos extended his hitting streak to 11 games with a three-run triple to right-center field to make it 8-2. Mavericks manager Joe Ferguson intentionally walked Clifford to face Villalobos.
The 21-year-old third baseman from Cartegena, Columbia went 3-for-5.
Clifford's second homer of the game, off Abraham Hacen in the eighth made it 13-3.
Andy Augustine, on a bases-loaded single, also had an RBI in the eighth to make it 14-3.
Mike Lanza's double-play grounder scored Marquez to provide the final score.
