2001 Season: July, August, September
Rather than call the 2001 baseball season a failure - which many objective people could easily do - the manager of the Lancaster JetHawks chooses to modify his definition of success: Winning isn't so important, developing players is the key. September 5, 2001 Monday, in the final game of a forgettable JetHawks season, a 7-5, 11-inning loss to San Bernardino, Robby Hammock did everything but run The Hangar's sound system (Don Burrow handled that). September 4, 2001 Some might say Sunday's game between the Lancaster JetHawks and San Bernardino Stampede was meaningless. September 3, 2001 The Stampede just found a new way to beat on the JetHawks, taking a few teeth in the process. September 1, 2001 The Mavericks scored six runs in the sixth inning and beat the JetHawks, 12-7, Wednesday in Lake Elsinore. August 30, 2001 The Giants held off Lancaster's furious comeback attempt Saturday to give the JetHawks their third consecutive loss, 9-8. August 26, 2001 The JetHawks extended their streak of consecutive games with an error to six on Friday, committing two in their 7-1 loss to San Jose. August 25, 2001 The Giants won Thursday's game against the JetHawks, 4-3, in San Jose. August 24, 2001 Poor defense is contagious and the Mudville Nine caught a nasty case of it from the JetHawks. August 23, 2001The Nine beat the JetHawks Tuesday, 8-6, giving Lancaster their third consecutive loss and Mudville their ninth consecutive win. August 22, 2001 Before the JetHawks' game Monday against Mudville, JetHawks manager Scott Coolbaugh grudgingly recalled his team's eight-error performance two days earlier. August 21, 2001
Casey never really went to bat for Mudville. Truth is, mighty Ca-sey was more of a bully than a ballplayer. The JetHawks will open a three-game series against the Mudville Nine tonight in Stockton, a city that has long claimed the legend of Casey as its own. August 20, 2001

August 9, 2001 With three weeks left in the season and the JetHawks buried at the bottom of the Cal League's South Division, it would be easy to roll over. For seven innings, that's what the JetHawks appeared to do against Visalia.
