| JetHawks minor league baseball in Antelope Valley

2001 Season: July, August, September
Rather than call the 2001 baseball season a failure - which many objective people could easily do - the manager of the Lancaster JetHawks chooses to modify his definition of success: Winning isn't so important, developing players is the key. September 5, 2001
Monday, in the final game of a forgettable JetHawks season, a 7-5, 11-inning loss to San Bernardino, Robby Hammock did everything but run The Hangar's sound system (Don Burrow handled that). September 4, 2001
Some might say Sunday's game between the Lancaster JetHawks and San Bernardino Stampede was meaningless. September 3, 2001
The Stampede just found a new way to beat on the JetHawks, taking a few teeth in the process. September 1, 2001
The Mavericks scored six runs in the sixth inning and beat the JetHawks, 12-7, Wednesday in Lake Elsinore. August 30, 2001
The Giants held off Lancaster's furious comeback attempt Saturday to give the JetHawks their third consecutive loss, 9-8. August 26, 2001
The JetHawks extended their streak of consecutive games with an error to six on Friday, committing two in their 7-1 loss to San Jose. August 25, 2001
The Giants won Thursday's game against the JetHawks, 4-3, in San Jose. August 24, 2001
Poor defense is contagious and the Mudville Nine caught a nasty case of it from the JetHawks. August 23, 2001
The Nine beat the JetHawks Tuesday, 8-6, giving Lancaster their third consecutive loss and Mudville their ninth consecutive win. August 22, 2001
Before the JetHawks' game Monday against Mudville, JetHawks manager Scott Coolbaugh grudgingly recalled his team's eight-error performance two days earlier. August 21, 2001
Casey never really went to bat for Mudville. Truth is, mighty Ca-sey was more of a bully than a ballplayer. The JetHawks will open a three-game series against the Mudville Nine tonight in Stockton, a city that has long claimed the legend of Casey as its own. August 20, 2001
The Lancaster JetHawks were given Saturday afternoon off - not taking any batting practice before the final game of their homestand. But they should have used the extra time for a little more fielding practice. August 19, 2001
On Friday, Brandon Webb pitched a perfect game through five innings to keep his new-found reputation intact and lead Lancaster to a 5-3 victory. August 18, 2001
The JetHawks used patience, speed and a 10-batter, seven-run inning to beat the Storm, 7-3, Thursday in Lake Elsinore. August 17, 2001
The Storm beat the JetHawks, 4-3, Wednesday in Lake Elsinore. August 16, 2001
The Storm turned a tight game into a blowout Tuesday, then held off a late rally to beat the JetHawks, 8-5, snapping Lancaster's season-best six-game winning streak. August 15, 2001
Stellar performances from Matt Kata and Corey Myers helped Lancaster grab a 4-1 victory over Lake Elsinore Monday. August 14, 2001
With Lancaster's 7-1 victory Sunday over Rancho Cucamonga, the JetHawks will take plenty of momentum on the road. August 13, 2001
Saturday's 9-1 victory over the Quakes puts the JetHawks in a tie for third place in the South Division's second-half race and eight games behind the Mavericks for the final playoff spot. August 12, 2001
Friday's 12-7 win over Rancho Cucamonga moves the JetHawks out of the Cal League's South Division basement. August 11, 2001
The JetHawks beat the Quakes, 11-1, Thursday at The Hangar. August 10, 2001
Wednesday, in his fifth-start with Lancaster, Duaner Sanchez lead an eight-inning charge against Visalia to earn his first JetHawks victory. August 9, 2001
With three weeks left in the season and the JetHawks buried at the bottom of the Cal League's South Division, it would be easy to roll over. For seven innings, that's what the JetHawks appeared to do against Visalia.
August 8, 2001
If Monday's game against Visalia was played a month ago, the JetHawks would probably have been in all too familiar territory: The loss column. The JetHawks, however, are not the same team they were at the beginning of July.
August 7, 2001
After holding Rancho Cucamonga hitless through 6 1/3 innings, the prodigal son of the JetHawks' starting rotation saw his seventh win of the year slip away despite Lancaster breaking a pair of ties in the ninth and tenth innings to take a 6-3 win Sunday over Rancho Cucamonga.
August 6, 2001
Saturday against Rancho Cucamonga, Scott Barber allowed seven runs in 2 1/3 inning - the shortest of his six starts this season - and the Quakes beat the JetHawks, 8-3.
August 5, 2001
Thursday night, Lancaster's Brandon Webb pitched eight flawless innings. He struck out 14 Modesto batters and gave up two hits in Lancaster's 3-0 victory over the A's.
August 3, 2001
Need a pitching lesson? Watch a tape of Wednesday night's game between the JetHawks and the A's.

Lancaster's Hatuey Mendoza pitched six innings of sterling baseball Tuesday night, allowing one run on one hit and giving the JetHawks a 3-1 victory over the A's.
August 1, 2001
Sunday, Scott Barber turned in his fourth consecutive shaky performance, allowing seven runs, six earned, in 3 2/3 innings as Lake Elsinore beat the JetHawks, 12-7.
July 30, 2001
The JetHawks scored four runs in the eighth inning Saturday, securing a 5-1 victory over Lake Elsinore.
July 29, 2001

July 22, 2001
With Friday's 7-6 victory over the Modesto A's, the JetHawks stretched their win streak to four games, the longest since the first week of the season, and won when trailing after the seventh inning for the second time in 49 tries.
July 21, 2001
The JetHawks managed one well-hit ball Thursday night off Modesto starter Denny Wagner. And they timed it just right.
July 20, 2001
The JetHawks had a five-run lead in the first inning before they had an out against them, then held on for an 8-7 victory over the Blaze Wednesday night.
July 19, 2001
Facing three-run deficits in the first and fourth innings, the JetHawks scored in each of the first five innings to inch out a 9-7 victory Tuesday over Bakersfield, snapping a four-game losing streak.
July 18, 2001
After being down a run late, Lancaster came back and tied Ba-kersfield only to fall 4-3 in 13 innings Monday at The Hangar.

The Mudville Nine took a 7-5 win over Lancaster Tuesday night at The Hangar.
July 4, 2001
It's about time. The JetHawks greeted July with a winning streak.
July 3, 2001
Some of Mike Glendenning's biggest fans may not be in the sun-scorched seats of The Hangar, but rather in the JetHawks' clubhouse. After hitting two home runs in three starts with Lancaster, the left fielder was influential in ending the JetHawks' 10-game losing streak on Sunday.
July 2, 2001
Saturday night, the JetHawks were trying to avoid their 10th consecutive loss and 25th of the 27 in the month of June, the worst month in the franchise's six-year history.
