JetHawks will host Cal-Carolina Game

This story appeared in the Antelope Valley Press July 6, 2000

By ED HARBOUR
Valley Press Staff Writer

LANCASTER - The Valley Press learned on Wednesday that the Lancaster JetHawks will host the 2001s can get together, it has been successful at Rancho, Durham, N.C., Lake Elsinore and for us.

"We feel that other than the travel, this is a good idea. That it's something special and should be continued."

The date will be finalized once both leagues have their schedules set for next season.

"We try to get the scheduled breaks pretty close every year," Johnson said. "Once we have our schedules we can set up the game."

Gagliardi is also very confident in the union and hopes to continue it for quite a while.

"I thought it was a great idea from the start, that's why it's still on," Gagliardi said. "It lends national credibility to two leagues of the same caliber. The scores have really shown parity between the two leagues.'

"I'm especially happy with the way it's done now. It's a baseball game and we have the same problem with rosters and promotions every year and don't know how to cure that but everything is the same. It's just a basic game with a west coast vs. east coast twist."

Lancaster has also looked into the possibility that the game could be broadcast through one of the ESPN networks.

"They have posed the question to us," ESPN manager of communications Diane Lamb said. "It is definitely something we are currently considering."
