Person freed from vehicle, flown to hospital after crash

PALMDALE - A person was flown to a hospital by helicopter after a collision Thursday on Sierra Highway at Angeles Forest Highway, officials said.

Traffic was halted to let the helicopter land after the crash, which happened just before 7 p.m. California Highway Patrol officials said.

Firefighters had to free the person from a wrecked vehicle.

Sheriff's deputies break up fight in mall parking lot

PALMDALE - Sheriff's deputies broke up a fight they said involved as many as 40 people Thursday outside the Antelope Valley Mall, officials said.

The fight broke out about 6:30 p.m. in the parking lot near the Gottschalks department store, sheriff's officials said.
